Introduction

Hello! My name is Ms. Caissie. I’m an Education Major at Florida Southwestern College in Fort Myers, Florida. My dream is to teach English in 11th grade.

I’m not like other teachers who grew up teaching their stuffed animals or younger siblings. My love for education stemmed from my love of learning. I have always had difficulty focusing on tasks in front of me but once the teacher made the story relatable to me I had no problem divulging myself into the world of the content. The other major reason I became a teacher was because of my teachers in High School who helped mold me into the individual I am today.

I love teaching but something I love more is Family. I am very close with my immediate family. I come from a blended family; meaning I have my biological mother, biological brother, my step father, and my step sister. My brother is married and has a little girl on the way who is already my world. Part of my reason for choosing different places around the world and the name Book Adventure Guide opposed to teacher is because I love traveling. I love camping and exploring different cultures. I especially enjoy being able to travel with my family.

I’m still very new to my philosophy as a teacher, I find that I identify more with Progressivism and Reconstructionism. Progressivism has a major focus on the student and less on the teacher and the content. I find that the information we can teach them is very important but it only resonates with them if it pertains to them and whether they discover the information that forms them into a productive individual for our community. I identify with Reconstructionism because I believe we should always keep in mind that although what we are teaching them in the past it’s going to reconstruct our future and our society. I guess you could say I’m a bit of a forward thinker.

My goal is that my students can connect with the world by using technology but through their education find themselves. I find that English awakens something in a person to identify with the reader and really make them examine themselves and the world around them.

Parents

Dear Parents,

As you know your child spend a majority of their childhood at school with me. So it is my goal and my privilege to help you raise your child to be the most well rounded individual they can be. With my lesson plans and my teaching methods they will find who they are and come back to you with confidence to conquer anything even if it’s just Algebra 2. I want to be their guide in their steps towards furthering their writing and reading comprehension.

Now with that being said I know not every child is the same so it is my goal to work with them one on one to find out what lessons work well and what won’t. I want to see your child succeed. The best way for that to happen is if we are also working together. If any issues are to arise I would like to be notified as soon as possible so they may be addressed so as to not hinder your child’s learning experience.

I’m sure you’ve heard the phrase “Teach an old dog new tricks” I’m sure some of the books we will be reading are different from what you read in high school; the cliché Scarlett letter and Huckleberry Finn. We’ll be reading books that have been around for over a hundred years and books that came out less than twenty years ago so I hope that you will take part in your child’s education and ask them what they are reading. Please be involved with their school work and don’t hesitate to ask me the relevance I will gladly help all parties understand why we are covering the material. But your child may need your guidance at home so I ask that you stay involved.

I am easily reached at jcaissie@bucs.fsw.edu so once again do not hesitate to email me with any questions and/or concerns. It’s my job to not only communicate with the students but also with you.

But most importantly, their futures aren't a movie or a book, as Doc Brown says, " It means your future hasn't been written yet. No one's has. Your future is whatever you make it. So make it a good one, both of you."
